Four4Four: Robert De Niro and other big celebs are softening to Donald Trump as president

For Hillary Clinton's Hollywood supporters, Donald Trump's surprise victory has led to some serious soul searching. And while some stars have come around to the idea of giving Trump the benefit of the doubt, others are resisting the President-Elect at all costs.

Tom Hanks and Robert De Niro both publicly expressed their opinions before the election that Trump was not fit to be president. However since the win, the A-Listers have offered messages of hope.

Hanks said at a tribute from the Museum of Modern Art film department: “We are going to be all right. America has been in worse places than we are at right now.”

And after De Niro called Trump “stupid,” and a “punk” and that he would like “to punch him in the face,” he seems to have softened his tone.

After receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom, De Niro said: “I would only say that we’re all hoping, waiting and hoping, that he will lead the country in a way that’ll benefit everyone and benefit our neighbors around the world.”

Miley Cyrus also came around to the idea of giving Trump a pass for now, posting a video to her Facebook a day after the election. Through tears, she said she would accept Trump as President, but added she still hopes to see Clinton become the first female president one day.

But not everyone is taking a wait and see attitude.

Many celebs — including Mark Ruffalo, Debra Messing, George Takei — urged fans to request audit of vote, hoping that the audit would prove Hillary Clinton had more votes than Trump.

Sally Field told Chelsea Handler on her Netflix show that she has no idea how he was capable of winning the election. She continued, “He has shown to be everything that he accuses and has accused Hillary Clinton of being. It is now evident he is all of those things, every single thing that he accused her of.”

Natalie Portman revealed to New York Magazine she is very upset with the results of the election but “extremely energized to get more involved.” While NBA star LeBron James, according to The Hollywood Reporter, refused to stay at Trump SoHo when the Cleveland Cavaliers went to play the NY Knicks.

Madonna has also been vocal in not letting go of the election results. She told Billboard she felt “heartbreak and betrayal" when she heard the results and that she feels betrayed by women who voted for the 70-year-old.

But Dan Gainor, VP of business and culture at the Media Research Center, said it’s ultimately time for these actors to grow up and accept the results.

“Conservatives have survived eight years of Obama and liberals, even from the Left Coast, can endure four or eight years of Trump," he said. "And if they really don’t like that idea, they should follow George Lopez out the door. There are always more actors and actresses.”

Gainor says more celebrities need to learn a lesson from Mark Wahlberg.“He said correctly that many actors are pretty out of touch with the common person, the everyday guy out there providing for their family. He’s right,” Gainor said. “And we’re tired of being lectured by limousine liberals who spend more on their shoes than the rest of us do on our cars.”
