Kash Patel is the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). President Donald Trump appointed Patel for the role, and he was later confirmed by the Senate on February 20, 2025.
The former Defense Department chief of staff and public defender from New York replaces Christopher Wray, who stepped down from the position prior to Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025. Patel entered his role with a call to reform the law enforcement agency.
Patel earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Richmond before returning to his home state to obtain his law degree. After serving as a public defender, he held multiple other titles in law enforcement such as the Department of Justice (DOJ) liaison officer to Joint Special Operation Command and as a terrorism prosecutor at the DOJ. Patel also had former roles with the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) and the National Security Council (NSC).
In addition to his government positions, Patel has also authored several books, such as “Government Gangsters: The Deep State, the Truth, and the Battle for Our Democracy” in 2023.
Patel has also penned multiple pro-Trump books for children.
