Larry David is stepping down as star of his Broadway show, “Fish in the Dark,” to be replaced by his “Seinfeld” star Jason Alexander on June 9.

When Alexander accepted the role, he had to pull out of another show, “Other People’s Money,” at the much smaller Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor.

He said dropping out of the Hamptons show was due to “unforeseen circumstances,” but “my desire to play at Bay Street has not lessened one bit.”

Yet a hysterical Hamptons theater source told The New York Post: “[Bay Street] had been beating the drums [about Jason’s show] for a while…Now their season has been thrown into chaos and confusion. He walked out on their play.”

However, a Bay Street spokesman calmly told the paper: “We are not in chaos or confused. We wish Jason all the best on his Broadway run, and we completely understand.” He added that a replacement will “be announced soon.”

David reportedly said of leaving Broadway: “I’ve enjoyed it, but as my mother used to say, ‘Enough is enough.’ I am sure the cast will be relieved to be working with a professional.”
