Lady Gaga: Pope's view on gay marriage 'does not matter'

LADY Gaga blasted the Pope as irrelevant after he spoke out against gay marriage.
The Born This Way singer told a European radio station that the religious leader’s opinion “does not matter to the world," The Sun reports.
On Friday, Pope Benedict XVI told French bishops: “Marriage and the family are institutions that must be promoted and defended from every possible misrepresentation of their true nature, since whatever is injurious to them is injurious to society itself.”
But the Catholic singer, a long-time defender of gay rights, hit back at his comments on French radio.
“I think that gay marriage is going to happen. It must." she said. We are not actually equal—humanity—if we are not allowed to freely love one another.
“What the Pope thinks of being gay does not matter to the world. It matters to the people who like the Pope and follow the Pope. It is not a reflection of all religious people.”
The controversial star has upset church leaders in the past by dressing as a nun, swallowing rosaries and using religious symbols in her act.
In 2011, she was accused of blasphemy when she released the song Judas, and a video which saw her as a modern day Mary Magdalene professing to be in love with the apostle.
At the time Bill Donohue, of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, condemned the former convent school pupil.
“’She is trying to rip off Christian idolatry to shore up her talentless, mundane and boring performances," he said.
