Nicolas Cage continues to prove he’s a national treasure.

The 53-year-old actor attended the 13th Eurasia International Film Festival in Astana, Kazakhstan, where he posed in traditional garb next to the country’s first lady, Sara Nazarbayeva, over the weekend — and the resulting photos immediately went viral.

Clad in a traditional Kazakh robe and a pair of sneakers, Cage looked absolutely miserable standing next to Nazarbayeva, giving the internet plenty to work with.

The “Face/Off” star didn’t mope through his entire visit, though. He brightened up considerably while attending the children’s film competition Five Continents. While there he met with disabled children and planted trees next to the Palace of Schoolchildren as a symbol of the future growth of the festival.

Cage’s rep didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

The festival, which runs from July 22 to 28, will also include appearances from John Malkovich and Adrien Brody, according to the Astana Times.
