Smoked salmon recalled for potential listeria contamination

A New York-based company is recalling two types of smoked salmon after a routine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) test revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in floor drains and cracks in the floor at the production facility.
Mt. Kisco Smokehouse of Mt. Kisco announced the recall on Monday. The following products were distributed in New York and Connecticut through retail stores and restaurants between Sept. 6 and Sept. 16, 2016:

The retail product is sold in a clear plastic package and is labeled on the back with lot and use-by date.
No illnesses have been reported to date. The company has suspended production of the product while they and the FDA continue to investigate the source of the problem.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals can experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache and diarrhea. Pregnant women may suffer miscarriages and stillbirths.
