A southeastern Michigan teen who carried his brother on his back during two long walks to raise awareness for cerebral palsy is being honored by Sports Illustrated.

Hunter Gandee earlier this year walked 57 miles while carrying Braden Gandee, who has cerebral palsy and cannot walk unassisted. They did a 40-mile trek in 2014.

Sports Illustrated announced Monday that Hunter Gandee is the magazine's High School Athlete of the Year. An awards ceremony is Tuesday in New York.

The walks called the "Cerebral Palsy Swagger" were part of an effort to raise awareness about cerebral palsy, a disorder that can affect movement, posture and muscle coordination.
