President Trump called Joe Biden a “Trojan horse for socialism” on Monday, in an escalation of attacks against the former vice president as the Democratic National Convention gets underway, calling the 2020 "the most important election we've ever had."

“Joe Biden is just a Trojan horse for socialism,” Trump said in Oshkosh, Wis. on Monday evening. “He is, he’s a Trojan horse. He has no clue, but the people around him are tough, and they’re smart.”

He added: “But we disagree with them very, very strongly. They’re mean and they’re angry.”

SEVERAL REPUBLICANS SET TO SPEAK AT DNC ON MONDAY NIGHT

"Joe Biden is the puppet of left wing extremists trying to erase our borders, eliminate our police, indoctrinate our children, vilify our heroes, take away our energy," Trump said Monday.

The president, in prepared remarks exclusively obtained by Fox News ahead of his speech, was expected to call Biden the "most dangeorus candidate to seek the office of the presidency in our lifetimes.”

But during the event, the president, moved off script, slamming Biden, and warning voters that "it will not be him running out country."

"We'll save our cities and our suburbs from the future of crime and chaos, corruption and economic collapse that puppet Joe Biden would unleash on America," Trump said. "This is a puppet. He won't do it intentionally...He just says, well, whatever they want, because he has no clue."

"No one will be safe in a Biden-run America," Trump said, adding that "Biden and Harris are pro-crime and anti-cop."

"There's no other way to say it," Trump said. "We're anti-crime and we are pro-cop all the way."

The president also went on to tout his economic record, saying the U.S. is "witnessing the fastest economic recovery in the history of our country."

Trump also touted his efforts to "rebuild" the military.

"What we’ve done with our military has been incredible," Trump said. "And Biden has promised to slash our defense budget, destroying critical jobs, but more importantly, if we dont have defense everything we talk about is meaningless."

He added: "We have to have defense, defense of our country."

The president used the appearance to counter what he called the "lies" from the Democratic convention, while warning about the "socialist" tendencies of the party.

Trump went on to slam Biden’s record, saying the former vice president will "take away our energy if you can believe it. No fossil fuels, destroy our Second Amendment, attack the right to life and replace American freedom with left wing fascism."

"This is the most important election we’ve ever had," Trump said. "We’ve got to stop these radical left maniacs."

He added: "We’ve got to win this election."

"We will win, and we will make America great again."

The president delivered the remarks at an event in Wisconsin Monday, just hours before the 2020 Democratic Convention is set to officially begin, with speakers ranging from Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., to former First lady Michelle Obama, who are expected to make the case for a Biden-Harris administration and slam Trump's presidency and his record.

But Biden hardly held back, in the days leading up to the convention, blasting Trump's record.

"Donald Trump has had a lot of failures in his career, but he knows how to do one thing well: inherit something great and squander it. And never take any responsibility," Biden tweeted over the weekend.

The president began a swing through the Midwest on Monday, beginning the day in Minneapolis. The president is slated to campaign in Arizona on Tuesday, the second day of the Democrats’ convention.

While the Trump campaign has not announced the president’s travel for Wednesday and Thursday, campaign officials confirmed to Fox News that Trump is expected to visit Scranton, Pa. – the city where Biden was born and spent his early years.

The trip should come hours before Biden is scheduled to give his presidential nomination acceptance address, which will be the biggest speech of his half-century career in politics.

Typically a presidential nominee will lie low as the opposition party holds its nominating convention – but Trump has repeatedly proven that he’s not one to adhere to political traditions.

The president’s visits to key battleground states amid the DNC convention is just one layer of what Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel described as a “multi-pronged response” from Republicans.

Trump Victory, the joint field effort between the RNC and the Trump Campaign, are planning more than 2,500 events in battleground states across the country next week, including the Trump Victory Leadership Initiative, trainings on voter contact and voter registration, MAGA meet-ups, watch parties and other volunteer events.

Meanwhile, the GOP convention is slated to take place from Aug. 24 through Aug. 27. The theme of the convention will be “Honoring the Great American Story."
