50 Shades of Grey spin-offs and splurges
Still can’t get enough of the book 50 Shades of Grey? The smutty Twilight fan fiction turned record-breaking, best-selling eBook coming to silver screen, produced by Universal Pictures and Focus Features, and the three books continue to dominate best sellers lists. But that's not all. The obsession with 50 Shades of Grey is inspiring trips to Seattle and Portland, hotels packages, cocktails and more.
- Hotel Packages The Heathman Hotel, which is mentioned in the trilogy, is giving you the chance to live like Anastasia. Book a room and add on some 50 Shades of Grey amenities, like appetizers, white wine and a helicopter tour of Portland. This "Charlie Tango No Limits" add-on package will cost you $2,750. You can go with the “Inner Goddess Addition” add-on instead, which only costs $40 and gets you a bottle of Pinot Gris and a grey tie to do with what you wish. Seattle’s Hotel Max is serving up a “50 Shades of Seattle” package that includes a two-night stay in an Artist King room, chauffeured town car service, a helicopter tour of the city and a private sailing excursion on Puget Sound with a gourmet picnic. This package starts at $1,669.read morePreferred Hotel GroupShare
- Tour Christian's Penthouse (by proxy) Sadly, you cannot freely and openly tour Seattle’s posh Escala condominium, the home of one handsome billionaire. Tours of the building are only available by appointment, and are intended for serious buyers, so you probably won’t be able to get in the building --and they are turning people away. You also have to prequalify to see one of the 5,200-square-foot private penthouses, which run between $4 and $6 million. You can, however, check out the pictures of the building’s interior that have made their way to the web. If you happen to be in Seattle, you can gaze up at the building and imagine a helicopter landing on the roof of a penthouse (something that is not actually allowed outside of the book).read moreEscalaShare
- Intimacy KitPersonality Hotels is offering a sexy black box that is “meant to unleash your creative shades of Grey.” The package, which is available at Hotel Diva, Kensington Park and Hotel Union Square (all in San Francisco), includes goodies like a black satin scarf and ribbon and feathers, which the website clarifies are “not meant for dusting.” Why not get a little help releasing your inner goddess?read morePersonality HotelsShare
- Apparel, Lingerie and Accessories E.L. James and her team have signed a deal with British licensing boutique Caroline Mickler Ltd. to bring 50 Shades of Grey-related merchandise to the book series’ growing population. Mickler is reported to be considering everything from lingerie/sleepwear and apparel to fragrances and beauty products. You may even be able to decorate your home with official 50 Shades of Grey-inspired bedding and home furnishings. These items will, not surprisingly, be aimed at adult women. If you can’t wait, you can always pick up some fan-made goodies on sites like Etsy and CafePress.read moreCafePressShare
- Drinking Games Spice up what is sure to be an already revealing and quasi-embarrassing book club with a 50 Shades of Grey drinking game. Fan site LatersBaby.net has a few rules to get you started, and they include taking a shot (or a sip if you don’t want to pass out halfway through the club) every time Anastasia bites her lip, as well as each time a character says “Laters, Baby.” Make sure to check out the hilarious and clever comments for more rule suggestions. Remember to pace yourself and drink responsibly, as things could turn south after a few too many mentions of Christian wearing “those jeans.”read moreiStockShare
- Cocktails On board for the 50 Shades of Grey drinking game, but are feeling the need to mix things up a little bit? The Stir has some stiff drinks inspired by the trilogy that can be enjoyed while gabbing with your girlfriends about who you think should play Christian in the movie, or while trying to get through the books in the first place. Check out The Stir’s “Red Room of Pain,” which is made with Grand Marnier Rouge, white rum, cranberry juice, pineapple juice and, of course, topped with a cherry.read moreiStockShare
