Travelers line up to get their luggage in the Southwest Airlines baggage claim at the San Jose International airport in San Jose, Calif. (AP)

American Airlines is offering a new service that allows passengers to skip baggage claim.

Starting this week, the airlines will give travelers  --who are willing to pay extra -- the option to have their bags delivered directly to their hotel, home or other destination. The service, in concert with American and BAGS VIP Luggage Delivery, is available when booking the trip or up to two hours before the flight and starts at about $30.  The service, which is available at more than 200 domestic airports and selection foreign cities, promises to deliver the baggage between four to six hours.

"We think this service will be especially valuable to families traveling with children as well as our business travelers who need to go straight to a meeting or into the office," says David Vance, managing director of customer operations planning for American in a press release.
