Arkansas 'Hood-Nic' car-show shooting leaves at least 1 dead, 20 wounded: reports
At least one suspect was taken into custody, with others believed to be involved, reports said

Authorities in Arkansas late Saturday doubled the number of victims at a car-show shooting in Dumas, saying as many as 20 people had been wounded by gunfire after initially estimating there were about 10 victims, according to reports.
The number of people killed remained at one, the reports said.
The car show was part of the 16th annual "Hood-Nic" event to promote nonviolence, FOX 16 of Little Rock reported.

At least several of those wounded were children but Dumas police Chief Keith Finch said he was told the children were doing OK afterward, reporter Shelby Rose of KATV-TV in Little Rock wrote on Twitter.
At least one suspect was taken into custody in connection with the gunfire, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.

But authorities believe other suspects remained at large, Finch told MonticelloLive.com.
"Multiple gunmen just started shooting," shortly before 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the former Fred's Dollar Store, the chief told the outlet.
The incident was believed to be among the worst shootings in Arkansas history, rivaling the Power Ultra Lounge shooting in 2017 that left 25 people shot, according to reporter Andrew Epperson of Little Rock's KARK-TV.

Earlier, a spokesman for the Arkansas State Police said authorities were expecting the number of wounded people to rise, according to the Democrat-Gazette.
"I do anticipate the wounded count to go up," spokesman Bill Sadler had said. "Right now it's all hands on deck."
No information was immediately available about the suspect, or about the medical conditions of those wounded.

Wallace McGehee, organizer of the gathering, spoke with KATV's Rose about the incident. He said he and other organizers wanted to send their "deepest condolences" to the victims and their families.
"We apologize for all of this to happen," he added. "This has never happened with us in our event, ever."
Personnel from multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene in Dumas, about 87 miles southeast of Little Rock, FOX 16 of Little Rock reported.

Victims were taken to hospitals in Dumas and McGehee, with at least two victims airlifted, according to FOX 16.

At least one child was taken to Arkansas Children's Hospital, the report said.

Earlier, Arkansas State Police said at least 10 people had been shot around 7:25 p.m. local time, FOX 16 reported.
