Man praised for delivering pizza to dozens of illegal immigrants discovered in truck

A Texas man was praised Wednesday after delivering pizza to more than 50 illegal immigrants who were discovered in a sweltering truck near San Antonio International Airport.

Armando Colunga told Fox San Antonio he saw the group drinking water and it didn’t appear that they had anything to eat. That’s when he decided to step in.

“Some people are thinking that it was their tax money that bought those pizzas for the immigrants, which it didn't turn out that way. It was my personal money,” Colunga told the station. “I'm not looking for anything back from it. I have done interviews but I just want to let everybody know that these are human beings, they aren't just immigrants. It's not about color or race.”

Colunga, who brought the pizza after work, thanked law enforcement officers for allowing him to bring pizza to the illegal immigrants.

Authorities discovered 54 illegal immigrants inside the truck Tuesday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agent in charge Shane Folden told reporters the people in the truck were originally from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Brazil.

He confirmed five people had been taken to a local hospital and four were later released.

Folden added that a 36-year-old Laredo, Texas man had been arrested and was expected to be charged with federal human smuggling violations.

Fox News’ Travis Fedschun and Samuel Chamberlain contributed to this report.
