Un agente de policía de Phoenix recibe "varios disparos", mientras aumenta la violencia armada en la ciudad, según las autoridades

Un agente de policía de Phoenix recibió varios disparos el martes y dos personas fueron detenidas para ser interrogadas, según informaron las autoridades.
Las autoridades no han revelado las circunstancias del tiroteo ni el alcance de las heridas de la agente, sólo han dicho que fue trasladada de urgencia a un hospital y que permanece en estado estable. El tiroteo se produjo en la zona de la 39ª Avenida y Baseline Road, según informó el Departamento de Policía de Phoenix.
Investigators believe her ballistic vest saved her life, Phoenix police Executive Assistant Chief Michael Kurtenbach told reporters.
"This officer that was shot today represents all that is good with law enforcement," he said. "She was out there doing a job that she loves. One that I know that she savors."

The unidentified officer has served with the department for 19 years. She is the ninth Phoenix police officer to be shot in the line of duty since December, Kurtenbach said.

The Phoenix Law Enforcement Association decried Tuesday's attack in a statement.
"We are angry and frustrated to learn about yet another officer attacked by a cowardly criminal with murderous intentions in Phoenix today," the organization said. "The men and women who serve in the Phoenix Police Department have bravely answered the call to service, an act not many are willing to do. As a community, we must demand better action to reduce violent crime and attacks on police officers."

Kurtenbach señaló que los homicidios en toda la ciudad aumentaron un 24% respecto al mismo periodo del año pasado. Los homicidios con armas de fuego han aumentado un 45%, dijo.
