8 killed in gas leak at southern China steel mill

Local authorities say eight people were killed and 10 injured after gas leaked from a pipeline at a steel mill in the southern province of Guangdong.

The Shaoguan city government said in a post on its microblog that the leak occurred at 3 a.m. Monday at the Shaoguan Iron and Steel company's Songshan plant.

It said the rescue and recovery effort was underway and the cause was being investigated.
