Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet approved a cease-fire agreement with Hamas on Thursday following 11 days of escalating military clashes in the Gaza Strip, his office confirmed in a statement.
The cabinet unilaterally approved a cease-fire agreement brokered by Egyptian officials following a late-night meeting, the Associated Press reported. One cabinet official who spoke on condition of anonymity said the agreement would take effect at 2 a.m. local time.
"The political leaders emphasized that the reality on the ground will be that which determines the future of the campaign," Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.

The apparent truce followed the most intense clashes between Israel and Hamas since 2014. Senior members of the Biden administration had pressured Netanyahu to de-escalate the conflict.
The current conflict has killed at least 230 Palestinians and a dozen people in Israel, reports say.
