White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reacts to video taken by ICE agent in Minneapolis

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt pushed back Friday against media coverage of the ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis, saying that an ICE agent “properly defended himself” and accusing the media of advancing a political narrative.

In a post on X, Leavitt said media outlets smeared the ICE agent after the officer fired on Renee Nicole Good, 37, who allegedly drove a vehicle toward him.

“The media smeared an ICE Agent who properly defended himself from being run over by organized leftist protesters who were impeding an active law enforcement operation,” Leavitt wrote.

She went on to criticize news organizations more broadly, saying that intentional misrepresentation is a reason for low trust in the press and accusing outlets of pushing a Democrat Party narrative.

“That’s exactly what they did in this case in Minnesota,” she added, pointing to video she says supports the agent’s actions.

Leavitt’s comments echo broader Republican support for the ICE agent’s use of force during the incident.

Newly obtained video taken by ICE agent shows moments leading up to shooting of Renee Nicole Good

Newly released video obtained by Fox News shows the moments before Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot by an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday.

The video, released two days after the incident, shows Good behind the wheel of a red Honda Pilot, and her partner simultaneously filming the encounter with her smartphone. The vehicle was parked in the middle of a residential street, appearing to block traffic.

"That’s fine, dude," Good can be heard saying in the video to the agent. "I’m not mad."

The shot pans away as Good allegedly attempted to ram her vehicle into the ICE agent before she was fatally shot.

Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has received ‘hundreds' of messages demanding ICE shooting probe

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that it has received “hundreds of calls and emails” asking for them to launch an independent investigation into the ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis.

“Our Office stands ready to assist in this investigation and we have reached out to both the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” it said on X. “However, as the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension correctly stated, without access to case materials, scene evidence, or investigative interviews, we are unable to do the thorough and accurate investigation necessary to meet the standards required by law and as the public would rightly expect.”

“We've spoken with sheriffs throughout our country, we all agree that an investigative process that excludes local agencies has the potential to have harmful implications nationwide,” the Sheriff’s Office also said. “We need communication and transparency between federal and local agencies as we all work for the communities we took an oath to serve and protect.”

Minnesota AG says Renee Nicole Good died ‘trying to be a legal observer’

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said Friday that Renee Nicole Good “died trying to be a legal observer to look out for the interests of the most vulnerable members of our community.”

Good was shot by an ICE agent in south Minneapolis on Wednesday. The Trump administration said she used her car to try to run over federal officers during an immigration enforcement operation.

“I just want to be perfectly clear. The precious life of Rene Nicole Good was important. She's a mother of three, including a 6-year-old child whose father passed away a few years ago,” Ellison said.

“She died trying to be a legal observer to look out for the interests of the most vulnerable members of our community. And she leaves behind a lot of people who love and admire her,” Ellison added.

Good worked as a Minneapolis-based immigration activist serving as a member of "ICE Watch," federal sources told Fox News earlier today.

Homeland Security sources told Fox News that the group aims to monitor, track, interfere and oppose ongoing federal immigration enforcement operations. The group is present in multiple sanctuary cities across the country.

Minnesota to gather own evidence in ICE shooting, says agent ‘does not have complete immunity’

Prosecutors in Minnesota announced Friday that they will start collecting their own evidence in the ICE-involved shooting, with Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty saying the officer responsible “does not have complete immunity here.”

The development comes a day after the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension dropped out of the investigation, alleging it was told by the FBI it would not have full access to the case materials. The Department of Homeland Security has disputed that claim.

On Thursday, Vice President JD Vance said the ICE agent involved in the shooting “is protected by absolute immunity.”

“I can't speak to why the Trump administration is doing what it's doing or says what it says. I can say that the ICE officer does not have complete immunity here,” Moriarty said.

“We do not yet know if there will be sufficient evidence without the FBI case file to even make a charging decision. The FBI currently has, for example, Ms. Good's car, the shellcasing and witness interviews. The FBI has taken the car, and so any forensic analysis that comes from that, would not be available to us unless they were sharing that,” Moriarty said.

“So we are moving forward in collaboration with the Attorney General's Office and the BCA to preserve any evidence and ensure that it can be reviewed,” she continued.

"To that end, we are asking those in our community who have information or who have video or photos of the event to submit that information to our office. We are providing a secure link where people can submit this evidence,” she also said.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison added, “We still know that there's evidence out there, and we want to make sure it gets gathered and collected.”

Video shows Minnesota woman's car blocking part of road before shooting

A video surfaced appearing to show a vehicle driven by Renee Nicole Good blocking part of a road on Wednesday in Minneapolis before she was shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.

The surveillance footage shows a vehicle first making a stop on the side of the road. A passenger then steps out, before the vehicle turns perpendicular to the road.

Later in the clip, ICE agents can be seen approaching the vehicle.

The Trump administration said Good used her car to try to run over federal officers during an immigration enforcement operation.

Mayor denies Minneapolis 'post-apocalyptic hellscape,' blames ICE for violence: 'We are a safe city'

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey insisted Friday that his city is “safe” and is not a “post-apocalyptic hellscape.”

“I have heard countless people talk about Minneapolis -- many of them who have never been here -- is some form of post-apocalyptic hellscape. As a place that is dangerous. Well let me give you a statistic. Fifty percent of the shootings that have happened thus far in Minneapolis this year have been ICE,” Frey told reporters, days after the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good.

“In other words, we've only had two shootings. One of them has been ICE. We are a safe city,” Frey added. “ICE is making it less so. We are a city of unity. But ICE is trying to divide us and tear us apart.”

Minneapolis mayor pleads for state investigators to be allowed into ICE shooting probe

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey made a plea Friday for state investigators to become involved in the investigation into the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent, calling the Trump administration’s description of the events “deeply concerning.”

Frey spoke after the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Thursday it was withdrawing from the investigation after being told by the FBI it would not have access to the materials required for a “thorough and independent” review. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem later said, “They have not been cut out, they don’t have any jurisdiction in this investigation.”

“In Minneapolis, when a tragedy strikes, there's one word that summarizes what is most important. And that word is integrity. This is not the time to bend the rules. This is a time to follow the law. This is not a time to hide from the facts. This is a time to embrace them, making sure that we're pushing for transparency every step of the way,” Frey said Friday.

"The fact that Pam Bondi's Department of Justice and this presidential administration has already come to a conclusion about those facts is deeply concerning. The facts that from the very beginning, they're calling the victim a ‘domestic terrorist.’ They're calling the actions of the agent involved as some form of defensive posture. We know that they've already determined much of the investigation, and even if they haven't, there is the appearance that there is some conclusion drawn from the very beginning,” he continued.

"Our ask is to embrace the truth. Our ask is to include the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in this process, because we in Minneapolis want a fair investigation. Is it deeply concerning that this administration, from the very get go, is drawing the conclusion that they may ultimately come to? Of course, it is,” Frey added. “And if you got nothing to hide from, then don't hide from it. Include local experts in the process. We got nothing to hide from here. All we want in Minneapolis is justice and the truth.”

'We need ICE away from our schools, now,' Minnesota teacher union says

A Minnesota teacher's union demanded that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents stay away from schools in Minneapolis Friday following the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good.

"We need ICE out of Minneapolis now. We need ICE out of Minnesota now. We need ICE away from our schools, now,” Catina Taylor, the president of the Minneapolis Federation of Educators, Local 59, said during a news conference.

“Since arriving, ICE has been a dangerous and out-of-control force, putting every Minnesotan in danger,” she added. “A mother was murdered. An elementary school was forced to lock down. Grown men use pepper spray on terrified high school students on school property. And that was just on Wednesday. This is the opposite of protecting our kids. This is the opposite of keeping the peace. Nothing about this is okay, nothing.”

DHS public affairs assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” that, “our law enforcement does not go into schools unless there is a public safety threat within those schools.”

“What we saw on Wednesday, which one of those educators was referring to, was there was an individual who was assaulting our law enforcement and he started a chase that went about five miles. The subject of this chase started going over barriers, he was running red lights, and eventually he took the chase onto school grounds. Our law enforcement did not go into this school and made sure to diffuse the situation.”

At least 12 arrested in Minneapolis anti-ICE protests

At least a dozen people have been taken into custody in Minneapolis during anti-ICE protests there, Fox News has confirmed.

On Friday morning, police in Minneapolis were seen dismantling a tent and working to clear other debris set up near the location where Renee Nicole Good was shot on Wednesday.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension announced that it had “reluctantly withdrawn” from the investigation into the shooting, alleging it was informed by the FBI it would no longer have access to materials required for a “thorough and independent” review.

When asked about the matter on Thursday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told reporters, “I'd like to know where they've been and why they're not out on the streets investigating all of these people that are harassing and inciting violence on law enforcement officers right now.

“They have not been cut out, they don’t have any jurisdiction in this investigation,” she added.

Renee Nicole Good was involved with ‘ICE Watch’ activist group, DHS sources say

Department of Homeland Security sources told Fox News that Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old woman who was shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday, was part of the “ICE Watch” effort across the city.

The sources said the group is organized to monitor, track, interfere and oppose ongoing federal immigration enforcement operations –- and is one of many such groups across Minneapolis.

The members often call themselves "legal observers,” but the sources said they are doing much more than just observing.

Before the shooting, Good had followed ICE agents around to at least two locations and used her car to block the roadway, interfering with ongoing investigations, according to Homeland Security.

Federal authorities are looking into these groups in terms of funding and training.

Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension drops out of ICE-involved shooting investigation

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) announced Thursday that it has "reluctantly withdrawn" from the investigation into the shooting of a woman by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer.

The state investigative bureau said it was informed by the FBI that it would no longer have access to materials required for a "thorough and independent" review.

Minnesota BCA Superintendent Drew Evans issued a statement on Thursday morning saying on Wednesday, "after consultation with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI, it was decided that the BCA Force Investigations Unit would conduct a joint investigation with the FBI" into the death of Renee Nicole Good during an ICE operation in south Minneapolis.

"Later that afternoon, the FBI informed the BCA that the U.S. Attorney’s Office had reversed course: the investigation would now be led solely by the FBI, and the BCA would no longer have access to the case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation," Evans continued.

"Without complete access to the evidence, witnesses and information collected, we cannot meet the investigative standards that Minnesota law and the public demands," he added. "As a result, the BCA has reluctantly withdrawn from the investigation. The BCA Force Investigations Unit was designed to ensure consistency, accountability and public confidence, none of which can be achieved without full cooperation and jurisdictional clarity."

Fox News Digital has reached out to the FBI for comment.

Gov Walz authorizes National Guard staging following fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Thursday authorized the Minnesota National Guard to be staged and ready to support local and state law enforcement in protecting critical infrastructure and maintaining public safety after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, 37, by an ICE agent in south Minneapolis.

Soldiers will serve in a support role, focused on protecting property, safeguarding critical infrastructure and allowing local law enforcement to remain focused on community safety and investigative responsibilities, according to a news release from the governor's office.

"Minnesotans have met this moment. Thousands of people have peacefully made their voices heard. Minnesota: Thank you. We saw powerful peace," Walz wrote in a statement. "We have every reason to believe that peace will hold.

"[Wednesday], I directed the National Guard to be ready should they be needed. They remain ready in the event they are needed to help keep the peace, ensure public safety, and allow for peaceful demonstrations."

The staging, authorized by an executive order, allows National Guard personnel on state active duty to coordinate and support public safety and security services in Minnesota.
