Who Can Challenge OKC?: It's the most legitimate question heading into the postseason. The Thunder won 68 games last season and are already at 64 this season. They have been the No. 1 seed in the West the past three seasons, and the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs each of the past two seasons. They have win streaks of eight, 12 and 16, and are currently on a seven-game win streak. OKC has the fifth-best offense in the league and the second-best defense, beating teams by an average of 12 points per game. It is the only team with a double-digit point differential, and only two teams in the NBA beat the Thunder two times or more this season: Minnesota and San Antonio.
Spurs or Bust?: Speaking of San Antonio, it appears that the Spurs are OKC's greatest challenger. The two teams played five times this season (NBA Cup included), and San Antonio won four of those matchups. Moreover, those four wins came by an average of 11.8 points, and two of them occurred on OKC's home floor. Will the Spurs play spoiler as the Thunder attempt to go back-to-back? With OKC securing the 1-seed in the West, and San Antonio securing the 2-seed, the earliest the two teams could meet would be in the Western Conference Finals. And, if seeding holds true, the Spurs will likely have to get past Denver in the second round. Those two teams have played three times this season (one matchup remaining) and those three games have been decided by a total of 10 points, with the Nuggets winning twice.
