The Favorite: Aaron Judge opened as the favorite pre-tournament, before Shohei Ohtani moved to the front of the pack. However, defending champion Japan lost in the quarterfinals, and Judge is now atop the board once again. Judge has one hit in the past two games. The assumption is the USA will need a big performance from its star player against the Dominican Republic in the semifinals.
Ones to Watch: Skyrocketing to second on the board is Acuna, who led Venezuela to an upset win over Japan in the quarterfinals. In that game, he hit a lead-off home run off World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Now, his country is expected to make it to the WBC title game, entering its game with Italy on Sunday as 1.5-run favorites. The winner will take on the winner of the USA and the Dominican Republic.
