Twitter announced it would permanently ban President Trump's personal account Friday, arguing that his messages risked inciting more violence like what broke out in the Capitol Wednesday.

Authorities have begun arresting and charging suspected rioters in connection with that chaos, which left at least five people dead, including a Capitol Police officer.

A senior Justice Department official said Friday that law enforcement took Richard Barnett into custody in Little Rock, Ark., after a viral photograph showed him sitting inside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office with one leg resting on a desk.

FAST FACTS

    • President Trump condemned Wednesday’s "heinous attack" on the Capitol by his supporters and called for healing.
    • But Twitter deleted his latest tweets and has permanently suspended his account, arguing his words need to be taken as part of a larger context.
    • President-elect Biden has criticized Trump for allegedly encouraging the violence and called for charges against the rioters.
    • At least 5 people died, including one Capitol Police officer, and more than 50 USCP and MPD officers sustained injuries.

President-elect Joe Biden said earlier that those responsible for the riots at the Capitol building should be held accountable -- as he again condemned the violence that engulfed the Capitol.

Meanwhile, more than 6,000 National Guard members were mobilized in the city, to be deployed by the weekend ahead of any potential further unrest.
