An off-duty police officer was shot multiple times early Sunday morning in Pittsburgh and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, according to reports.

Calvin Hall, 36, was fired upon around 1:30 a.m. in the Homewood neighborhood. He had been visiting friends in the area when an argument broke out and shots were fired, according to the city's Public Safety Department.

“The officer's family and colleagues are focused on his well-being alone and want privacy from the media,” police spokesman Chris Togneri told the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

Hall has been with the Pittsburgh police for two years and recently worked at the Northview Heights Public Safety Center. Before that, he was an officer at Point Park University, a liberal arts college in Pittsburgh.

After the shooting, police said several people attending a house party near the crime scene were detained for questioning and a SWAT team was called to search the house, according to the newspaper.

Stacey E. Gibson, one of the woman in the house that was searched says police detained two of them and took some of their belongings.

“Now my wife is distraught,” Ms. Gibson told the newspaper. “I ain’t never been detained in my life.”

Police interviewed a man only identified as Calvin, who "heard five shots go off around 1:30 a.m," the newspaper reported.
